About Tempe

Junk hauling built around Tempe

Tempe runs on cycles — May move-out chaos when ASU semesters end, August move-in for new student leases, and steady turnover at Tempe Marketplace and ASU Research Park offices year-round. We schedule extra trucks in Tempe during May and August specifically because demand spikes.

Beyond the student rentals, Tempe has gorgeous mid-century neighborhoods like Maple-Ash and The Lakes where we do estate cleanouts, garage purges, and remodel debris haul. Tempe Town Lake-adjacent condos round out the mix with smaller, repeat jobs.

What affects price

Tempe pricing factors

Volume

Priced by how much of our 20-cubic-yard trailer your load fills — single-item curbside is $99, then $249 for 1/8, $399 for 2/8, $699 for 4/8, all the way up to $1,299 full.

Heavy items

Pianos, safes, hot tubs, and large appliances add a flat specialty fee, never an hourly charge.

Access

Standard driveway pickup is included. Long carries (200+ ft) or multi-flight stairs may add a small fee — always quoted upfront.

Disposal type

Hazardous-adjacent items (fridges with refrigerant, tube TVs) carry the actual facility fee, no markup.

What's different about junk removal in Tempe

Tempe collection, and the complex-dumpster trap

Tempe runs scheduled residential bulk and brush collection by area. Confirm your window with the city before planning around it. For single-family households with ordinary bulk and flexible timing, it works well and costs nothing beyond your existing city services.

The catch in Tempe is that a large share of residents are not in single-family homes. If you live in an apartment complex or a condo, the city's residential program is generally not what serves you — the property contracts its own commercial waste service, and nearly every complex prohibits residents from putting furniture, mattresses or appliances in the community dumpster. Those lease addenda typically authorize charging the responsible unit, often per item and often more than professional removal would have cost.

That is the single most expensive misunderstanding we see in Tempe, and it is the reason move-out furniture gets abandoned in breezeways every August. If you rent, check the addendum rather than assuming, because the trash enclosure is frequently on camera.

An academic calendar runs this city's junk cycle

Tempe's turnover is driven by Arizona State's calendar, not the seasons. The heaviest stretch runs from late July through mid-August as leases roll ahead of the fall semester, with a secondary wave in May. During those windows every mover, cleaner and hauler in the East Valley is booked out, loading zones are contested, and many complexes restrict move-in and move-out hours to manage the volume.

If your move falls in that window, book two weeks ahead rather than two days. The price is the same; the availability is not. If you have flexibility, scheduling in June or late September gets you easier access, faster service and a far calmer building.

Housing stock splits the city cleanly. The areas around campus — Maple-Ash, Downtown Tempe and the corridors along Apache and Rural — hold the oldest and densest rental stock, with narrow parking, no elevators in most two- and three-story buildings, and long carries to wherever a truck can legally stop. South Tempe, Warner Ranch and The Lakes are newer, more suburban, and far simpler to work: standard driveways, single-family access, and the usual HOA considerations rather than building ones.

Small lots, shared alleys and street parking

Outside the apartment stock, Tempe's single-family neighborhoods are among the oldest and tightest in the East Valley. Maple-Ash and the streets around downtown are small-lot homes, frequently with detached garages, shared alleys and no driveway apron to speak of.

Street parking is the binding constraint on a lot of those jobs. Where a truck can legally stop may be a genuine distance from the front door, and on some blocks a full-size rig simply cannot turn around. We bring a smaller trailer into those neighborhoods rather than trying to force a large vehicle through, which is faster and far less likely to clip a parked car.

Alley access, where it exists, is a real advantage and we will use it. If your property backs onto an alley, say so when you book - it can cut the carry distance by most of its length and it changes which vehicle we send.
